When we received our diagnosis in 2022, we were completely alone. We didn’t have any friends or family who were part of this world. Social media became a lifeline for us as we have navigated our first year. Below is a list of our favorite Instagram resources. If you’re feeling alone in this journey, I hope that this helps change that.

Type One Together has to be our number one Instagram page. The founder, Raquel, has had Type One since early on in childhood. A frequent poster on the Type One Together page and her own page (typeoneday), she shares a lot of insight into the day to day with diabetes, as well as tips and tricks. She is the one who taught us that you can use a test strip to remove the transmitter from a Dexcom G6 sensor! Another frequent poster on the page is Amanda, who has a toddler with Type One. They post frequent community builder posts and also do a lot of in person events. There is also “The Grandparents Course” that helps the grandparents of kids with Type One learn the ins and outs of the condition independently, taking the pressure off the parents. Another popular program they offer is the “Automode Masterclass” to teach you how to use an insulin pump so that you can work with it to manage sugars, not against it. You can also get a Diabuddy from them, a stuffed animal that has a pump and CGM.

Ariana Frayer has been a favorite for us because she is the embodiment of “I am more than my condition.” She is an avid hiker who also runs her own small business, Cup of OJ. She posts about her day to day life, and is honest about the challenges while also sharing the wins that come along with this diagnosis. She has had Type One since childhood but still experiences new things with her management. Just recently she started using an Omnipod after being MDI (Multiple Daily Injections) for years. When we first received our diagnosis we were worried about my child’s future and what that would look like. Will they be able to go on adventures? Will they get to experience all that life has to offer? Will they have a happy life? Ariana has shown us that all of this is possible and then some! She also recently became a mom! She is such a bright light in the Diabetes community!

KreugersPlusT1D is an amazing page to follow. This family has six members with Type One Diabetes so you get to see just how different management is for everyone. Each member of the family has a unique diagnosis story as well as their choice of CGM and insulin delivery. I love this page because it really drives home that Type One is not one size fits all.

David Ahn is a great page to follow as well because you get to hear from the mouth of a professional. He gives honest reviews on new devices such as the POGO, iLet, and various CGMs. It’s sometimes nice to hear from an endocrinologist who isn’t part of your team so you can see what other opinions are out there.
These are just a few of our favorite Instagram resources! I hope that they can help you feel like part of the community and provide valuable information.
