2024 Recap

2024 was certainly a year to remember!

In February 2024 we had made the decision to dive in head first and apply for nonprofit status with the state of North Carolina.  We became an official North Carolina nonprofit organization on March 4, 2024.
We then turned our sights to gaining our official 501(c)3 nonprofit status.

Fast forward to April and we put out a “Get to Know Us” post of a local Facebook page and we were contacted by a local reporter who wanted to do a story on Type One Kids.  In a crazy turn of events, the same day that the article went live we received the notice that we were officially a 501(c)3 organization!

On May 25th we held a Type One meet up at a local Italian ice truck and got to meet a few families in our community!  We learned from this that while the Italian ice was cool, outside events in May in Eastern North Carolina are not for the faint of heart.  In the future, we will try to move our events indoors during those brutal summer months.

September was by far our busiest month this year!  On September 7th we participated in the revival of a beloved town tradition, Farmer’s Day!  We met so many amazing people who either had type one diabetes, or loved someone with it.  We got to see that what we were doing was actually needed and got some ideas for future events and projects.

At the end of the month we held our second annual Glucose Gala.  We had two wonderful sponsors, The Coffee Co. and Clancy and Theys Construction, as well as a silent auction basket from Strickland Brothers.  Our first Glucose Gala had 19 people in attendance.  2024’s gala had 40!  Our goal for 2025 is around 60 to 75 people!  The funds raised from this event were allocated for future events like our Christmas event which took place mid-December.  The rest of the funds have been set aside for administrative costs (our website, email, and PO Box) and future projects.

In December we were blessed to be able to use the event space at The Coffee Co. free of charge.  We decorated the event space with gifts, garlands, and ornaments and had several free Christmas/holiday themed crafts for kids to enjoy.  We also had a snack bar with all of the carb counts provided, and were sure to include options that were celiac safe as well.  Kids with type one who attended this event were given free Dexcom G6, G7, or Omnipod stickers kindly donated by the Etsy shop, Diabetic Decor Danica!  (Check them out if you need stickers!  They are amazing quality!)

Sadly we did not get to attend the town Christmas parade as we originally set out to do.  Hopefully we will be able to attend in 2025!

Overall 2024 was a very exciting year, and we are looking forward to 2025!

To everyone who has supported us this year, thank you!  From the bottom of our hearts, THANK YOU!
